I try to incorporate a little bit of fandom into my everyday, and accessories can say it all! My favorite pieces are creations from artists I run into in the Artist’s Alley of a convention or on Etsy. I also love making my own nerdy jewelry, which makes the topic for my very first 5 Fandom Friday rather fitting. Here are a few of my favorite items from an ever-growing collection!
One. Anna & Kristoff Earrings
It took me less than 5 minutes to go from seeing these adorable little clay earrings to hitting the checkout button. They’re so well constructed, lightweight, and absolutely ADORABLE. They’re made by Sentimental Dolliez, who has an incredible array of super cute clay figures and accessories.
I have an entire collection of nerdy hairbows, but nothing beats my super cute Hobbit bows by SirenLovesYou.
Three. Harry Potter Charm Bracelet
For so long, I couldn’t find many fandom related pieces of jewelry–my favorites had no official merchandise, and even Etsy failed me. But, dammit, I needed to own a Sherlock Holmes bracelet. So, I did what every logical person would do. I got on etsy, spent over $100 on charms, beads, and all the supplies you need to create jewelry. Now, I had never so much as strung a beaded bangle before, so this was quite a leap of faith.
Luckily, it worked out, and now I have a vast collection of fandom related jewelry ranging from Sherlock to Harry Potter to Game of Thrones. My favorite shifts with my mood, but I definitely have a soft spot for my Gryffindor themed bracelet!
Four. Welcome to Night Vale Mug
Welcome to Night Vale has given me simultaneously the most reassuring and vaguely terrifying experience. Sometimes it’s fun to grab a cup of tea and pretend that I live in this little desert community where strange happenings are commonplace.
I love my engagement ring for many reasons, but I can’t deny its’ nerdy history. To begin with, the ring’s maker is an independent creator we met at a Renaissance Faire. I’ve been in love with his designs for years. So there’s the fact that we picked out this ring in full Faire garb.
But I say my ring is fandom-related for another reason entirely. The waves formed in the silver and the cascading gems remind me of the unicorns.
Far out to sea, the combers were coming in: the long, heavy rollers, curling over white across their green hearts; tearing themselves to smoke on the sandbars and the slimy rocks, rasping up the beach with a sound like fire. The birds flew up in yelling clumps, their strident outrage lost in the cry of the waves like pins.
And in the whiteness, of the whiteness, flowering in the tattered water, their bodies arching with the streaked marble hollows of the waves, their manes and tails and the fragile beards of the males burning in the sunlight, their eyes as dark and jeweled as the deep sea – and the shining of the horns, the seashell shining of the horns! The horns came riding in like the rainbow masts of silver ships.
It reminds me of the work of art that is The Last Unicorn.
I’m lucky to have such a unique and beautiful reminder of a unique and (mostly) beautiful relationship. Everything about it is perfect.
