Back in 2015, Disney announced that it planned on both a sequel to the box-office smash hit Frozen, but it also planned for a Broadway musical. Disney is no stranger to the Great White Way, with productions such as Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Tarzan, The Little Mermaid, and the currently running Aladdin.
Announced on Tuesday, the Broadway version will hit the stage in 2018, with the Pre-Broadway Engagement occurring Summer 2017 at an unannounced theater. Joining the team responsible for the hit, Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Robert Lopez and Jennifer Lee, will be quite the team of Broadway natives.
Disney released a press release regarding the Creative Team with all the details:
Golden Globe Award and Obie winner and two-time Tony Award® nominee Alex Timbers (Peter and the Starcatcher, Here Lies Love, Amazon’s Mozart in the Jungle) is Frozen’s director and Tony-winner Peter Darling (Billy Elliot, Matilda) is choreographer.
The design team for Frozen includes scenic and costume design by seven-time Tony Award winner Bob Crowley (Mary Poppins, The Coast of Utopia, An American in Paris), lighting design by five-time Tony Award winner Natasha KaK (Aladdin, An American in Paris, The Glass Menagerie) and sound design by four-time Tony nominee Peter Hylenski (The ScoLsboro Boys, Motown, After Midnight).
Two-time Tony Award winner Stephen Oremus (Avenue Q, Wicked, The Book of Mormon) is music supervisor and creates vocal and incidental arrangements.
Casting and Broadway dates and theatre will be announced at a future date.
