We won’t lie: we did not see the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film when it hit theaters in 2014. We weren’t really wowed by the trailers, and the word of mouth was well, not the best. But that did not stop the sequel from rolling out. But fans seem to be more excited about this one, at least from what we have seen on the web.
Word had gotten out as the production of the film began that TMNT characters Rocksteady and Bebop were going to be part of the film. Concept art and casting appeared, but no first look. After watching the above trailer, the characters appeared and fans were content! But new information has come out just this week about another TMNT universe character that may get a big screen incarnation.
In a recent interview, Michael Bay had this to say about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows:
They start with Ninja Turtles animation. Pablo Helman, a visual-effects supervisor who worked on the Star Wars prequels, appears onscreen and shows Bay the latest version of Krang, a new-to-the-movies villain who is, essentially, a disembodied brain inside a giant robot. “So we’ve eliminated the tentacles,” Helman explains. “Is it too monster-ish?”
“He could have some tentacles,” says Bay. “I just don’t want them coming out of the side. He looks like a stupid octopus.”
They show him a clip of two other new characters, a mutant warthog and a mutant rhinoceros named Bebop and Rocksteady. “You gotta adjust that mass,” Bay says. “That mass is not too good yet.” He watches a few more times. “Is our rhino dude’s head big enough, do you think?”
“We could make it bigger,” Helman says. The ILM guys write it down.
You can read the full article here, with details about TMNT about halfway down the story. With this bit of detail, fans can expect to see one of the most notorious villains from the animated series alive and on the big screen. Krang, who resides in a robot bot and resembles a disembodied brain with tentacles, should be quite interesting on the big screen, if done right. If not…the fans will definitely have plenty to say, that is for certain.
UPDATE: Images have hit the web of the toy line from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, which includes a look at Krang in all his robotic and disembodied glory! CBR had the scoop today, which we wanted to share with you.
The leaked images come ahead of New York Toy Fair, so there may be changes to the line of toys before hitting the public shelves. We shall see!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows hits to theaters June 3, 2016. Cowabunga dude!
